"What I Be"
Mike Slap's anthemic new single loudly proclaims "I will not stay in one lane!" He emphatically sings about how he will not bend to society's tendency to label people as only one thing. Mike also makes his much-awaited return to rap with a potent 16-bar verse. A beautifully-produced contrast of organic keys, bold synthesizers and stadium-sized drums make this track equal parts triumphant and inspiring.
About Mike Slap
Multi-faceted artist Mike Slap explores the depths of his poetic lyricism and extends his musical capabilities from rapping and producing to expressively sung vocals with a fresh electro-pop signature. With the ability to drive a song home, he is also responsible for much of his own engineering. Such examples include his newest single "What I Be" and "Inside of my Crown". Formerly known as Symmetry, the unconstrained and honest song-writing style he wields easily translates to hip-hop and pop fans alike.
Mike shares his experiences of love and life by transforming misfortunes into musical opportunities. He tackles a variety of writing styles influenced by a capella, doo-wop, hip-hop, r&b, and electronic pop music. Transitioning between singing and rapping, he effortlessly intertwines these genres into one.
After generating a loyal fanbase in his hometown of Providence, Rhode Island, Slap’s scope widened as one of his songs “Light Tunnels” was recruited by his friend and former musical partner, Ryan Lewis. This vocal performance was featured on the opening track of the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis album “This Unruly Mess I’ve Made” in 2016.
